In early Spring, as cattle arrive, our job is to grow them on pasture through a system built around rotational grazing, daily health checks, and constant attention to mineral, water, and forage quality. Our mindset is that of a conductor, shaping everything from how we handle stock to how we manage pasture.

By late May or early June, the first mowing begins. Mowing is more than weed suppression, it is one of our most reliable tools for keeping grass in a young, palatable stage that drives gain. Around here we say, “perfect the predictable.” In an industry where weather, markets, and animal health can shift overnight, we believe the things that can be done with consistency, and efficiency must be done with purpose.

Late June ushers in the first sort. Using mobile hydraulic chutes and scales, we sort cattle into groups according to size. The heaviest groups will be marketed first, often shipping to farmer-feeders and Midwestern feedlots within weeks. The other weight classes follow in turn, with an additional sort later in the season. All the while, the routine continues: rotating pastures, monitoring forage, feeding mineral, and gearing up for the fall roundup.

By October, groups are coming through the chute for the final sort. Each trip through includes deworming and any necessary health work. As cattle are shipped, they’re weighed again across certified scales, and payment is based on the gain made while they were on our farms. It’s a relationship that works: Integrity Land & Cattle are the best at what they do, procuring structurally sound, high-risk calves, with endless upside potential, and we steward the forage and land base that allows those calves to keep gaining efficiently.

At the end of the year, after the final loads ship - the farms and men rest. The land’s rest is just as critical as any other variable, it’s what allows the forage base to be ready for another season, and another group of cattle, come Spring.
This is what we do at Rocking 8 Cattle Co. It’s a rhythm built on faith, family, and forage - on predictable work in an unpredictable industry - and on a partnership with Integrity Land & Cattle that pushes us to be better every year.
